Born and raised in Mexico City, Hector is a writer/director whose work draws on the whimsical surrealism of the city he grew up in. That environment shaped his love for stories told through a lens of magic: stories about love, belonging, and friendship, always interwoven with a colorful veil of fantasy. He earned his MFA from the UCLA Producers Program, where one of his projects, The Art of Survival, was a semi-finalist at the Student Academy Awards. After graduating, Hector learned the art, craft, and business of filmmaking by working nearly a decade in development at Amazon, Imagine Entertainment, and, currently, Disney Animation.
His films have screened at international festivals including Academy Award Qualifiers such as the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and LA Shorts. His most recent film, FABULA, premiered at the NFMLA Festival, where it was nominated for Best Overall Drama Short.
To evoke the kind of magic that draws Hector to storytelling, his work is defined by a personal and hands-on passion for practical effects, puppetry, and the blending of animation and stop motion into live action.
